gaskinsKimberly Jordan-Gaskins was born and raised in Washington DC. Kimberly attended the Duke Ellington School of the Performing Arts under the vocal instruction of Ms. Monica Otal and Mr. Edward Jackson.

Continuing her vocal training, Kimberly attended Kent State University majoring in Vocal Music Performance. Shortly after her first year of college, Kimberly was involved in an automobile accident that left her paralyzed from the waist down, however determined to overcome, Kimberly endeavors to pursue her career as a soloist.

Five words that describe Kimberly best are as follows: confident, virtuous, approachable, purpose driven, and fervent.

The Ms. Wheelchair Maryland 2013 gala occurred on November 3, 2012 at the Hilton Hotel in Rockville, Maryland. Congratulations to all contestants including: Patrina Franklin from Churchton, Alexandria Gethers from Baltimore, Shani Watson from Upper Marlboro, Sheila Whitaker from Glen Burnie, and Lea Edgecomb from Germantown. Patrina Franklin was crowned Ms. Wheelchair Maryland 2013, and Lea Edgecomb was crowned Junior Miss Wheelchair Maryland 2013. For the first time in Ms. Wheelchair Maryland history, a Senior Ms. Wheelchair Maryland was named. Sheila Whitaker was crowned Senior Ms. Wheelchair Maryland 2013. Patrina will represent Maryland at the national pageant in July in Houston, Texas.

The contestants arrived on Friday October 29, 2010 for a Halloween party in the Presidential suite of the Hilton Hotel in Rockville, Maryland. The gala occurred on October 30, 2010 starting with the contestants recording a message for President Obama regarding the Americans with Disabilities Act and the executive order to hire more people with disabilities in the government. The contestants than gave their platform speeches. Contestants left the hotel to have lunch at Philips Seafood Restaurant. After lunch, the contestants underwent two rounds of judging. The gala started at 6:30 PM. The contestants were asked two fishbowl questions which they answered in front of the judges and the audience.
