On November 21, 2012 I attended the Goodwill Industries’ 57th annual Thanksgiving Dinner at the Baltimore Convention Center as they feed more then 2,100 needy and homeless persons. I was joined by previous Ms. Wheelchair Maryland title holders Shannon Minnick (2010), Cathy Porter (2007) and Ms. Senior Wheelchair Maryland 2013 Shelia Whitaker.

As I rolled around the large area to meet and greet people I was embraced with hugs, handshakes and compliments from a diverse set of individuals. I hoped by being there to at least inspire one person; however, I did not imagine how touched I would be by the stories I was told. This experience made me realize how blessed and thankful I truly am! I remember one woman in particular whose first words to me were “I can read people and you have a positive spirit.” As we continued to talk I felt an overwhelming presence come over me as I begin to feel very emotional. She then told me “see you can feel it to.” It was such an opportunity to participate in a good cause like this.

I would like to say thank you to the CEO of Goodwill Industries of Chesapeake Lisa Rusyiak and the many of volunteers who made this event a success. In addition their were many other individuals who shared their time like Mayor Stephanie Rawling-Blake, Chairwomen Karyne Henry of “Suited to Succeed”, and multiple vendors who provided resources to the needy and homeless. It is heartwarming to see that people still care in today’s world.
